David Knapp is the founder of Artisan Outdoor Lighting.  Directly out of High School, he went into the Army, where he trained and became an aviation helicopter mechanic.  After serving his country, David attended the Milwaukee Area Technical College where he studied for, and became certified, as an Airframe and Powertrain Mechanic.  Knowing since high school that he “someday” wanted to own his own business, he also studied Business Administration while attending UW-Milwaukee.

Out of College and with his Airframe and Powertrain Mechanic Certification in hand, David began work with Braniff.  It was working for Braniff as an inspector where he picked up a high attention to detail as well as an appreciation of top-quality products and equipment, which he has carried with him ever since.

With the collapse of Braniff and the instability of the aviation industry in general, David decided it was time to fulfill his dream and he began looking for business opportunities.  In 1999, he became one of the first franchisees in what was to become a large, nation-wide landscape lighting company.

After his franchisee agreement expired, David took the knowledge & experience he gained and formed Artisan Outdoor Lighting in 2005.  He approaches each job with an emphasis on the best design for each customer and a high quality installation to ensure an elegant effect with a long lasting system, using only the best equipment available.  Because of the relationships established over the years, David can provide equipment manufactured to his specifications and to the highest of standards.  Those relationships and bulk purchasing allow him to offer systems at the same cost, and often less than many other companies offer as their “standard” systems. This is only one of the many reasons Artisan can deliver such a great value to you, the customer.
